Some 40,000 scientists and researchers have urged federal agencies to better examine the subtle effects of many common chemicals added to foods and beverages in a recent open letter to the FDA. Since many chemical additives are suspected of having harmful effects on the nervous and endocrine systems, much more careful study of their longterm effects is called for say the scientists. For instance aspartame aka Nutrasweet has long been suspected of having deleterious effects on the brain and is thought by some scientists to be a cause of Alzheimer's disease and even leukemia. |
